What food will be
available?....
If you are not used to eating seasonally, you may
want to do some research.
It is a bit of a transition from buying anything, anytime you want at
the supermarket.
This can be an educational opportunity for your family, especially the
children.
Talk about the cost of shipping food from California or overseas, and
the disadvantage of food that is picked unripe, nutritionally deficient
and probably laden with pesticides.
Then discuss the advantages of eating fresh, organic, local and
seasonal food as Mother Nature intended.
Some people don’t know that asparagus grows in early spring,
tomatoes don’t ripen until about August, or that butternut squash
isn’t available until fall.
Here is a list of some of our seasonally available produce.
(Keep in mind that seasons will overlap to some extent and are
dependent on weather conditions.)
